Official Scorer

I love cricket and no doubt about it. But I never thought that my love for cricket would make me the official scorer for three matches and finally leaves me a headache.

Yesterday was a hectic day. My boss is organizing the cricket matches and asked me to be there at the ground. I thought that it would be just half an hour or one hour stay at the ground and then I could come back. I went to the ground after "one hour" walk. I almost covered one side of whole powai lake. I reached the ground wherein half my shirt was with sweat. I was there at the ground around 9.30 AM and shockingly I dint find my boss there.

I could see other colleagues there and so I slowly joined in one of the teams there. I played two practice matches. I adopted one new technique on how to confuse the bowler and it was funny. Please dont ask me what is that.

I saw my boss around 11.30 AM. I went and talked to him. He gave me chocolates :).

It was during the lunch time he told me "you take care of the scoring part". I used to do that kind of work during college days and I know it was a painful task. I thought it might not be such a pain as the match duration is too less. But I never thought that "match duration" would be such a critical factor and realized its potential to the fullest after first match.

With in seconds, I need to update the batsman score, bowlers score and the total score. It was a job with full of tension, because the two teams would be counting the score and if anything goes wrong, both the teams will kill me for sure. The worst part is that, for every ball bowled, atleast two to three persons come and ask me "what is the score? ". By the end of third match, my head was burning.

The other factor was the tension among the audience. As a scorer, I was sitting at some distance from the boundary wherein I could see the umpire perfectly. When the match is at an interesting point, people come and stand in between the umpire and me. I should request them to move. Again, unknowingly after sometime, they come and stand between us. For the last match I almost went nearer to the boundary rope and was recording the score sitting there itself.

But the best part was the third match. It was such a high tension game. I desperately wanted the second team to win for their spirit "never give up". Till the last ball, no one knows who is gonna win. Finally, The second team couldnt make it.

After winding up everything, I had a paracetmol tablet and thanks to saritha for helping me to get the tab. I came back to room and watched Harrypotter series. Now, I am feeling the heat of it. I am very eager to know how the next part would be.
