On the friendship day....

First let me finish-off the wishing formalities.

I wish all my friends "Happy Friendship Day".

Special wishes to my best friend, anvesh, sandesh, lokesh, rajesh, ravi, murali, arina, srilu and stari. Also those whom I havenot mentioned here :). ( I dint include any of college friends as I could wish them directly. )

By the way this is my gift to you guys. Friendship coke... (Please watch this ad .. its really a gift from my side... You will love it.. I WISH WE ALL MEET ONCE AGAIN ON A FRIENDSHIP DAY NEAR COKE MACHINE)

How is it??

On a serious note, I dint enjoy this day apart from the end of day twist. If I dont wish my best friend on a friendship day, what is this day for?.

These days I am sleeping very late and morning after getting up I always think this way "If I bunk today, still how many classes am I left to bunk/attend?". Now time is 4.32 AM and no doubt I will feel the same way when I get up in the morning.

Once again Happy friendship day.

Signing off....

So, one of my friends is Pappu ? (Ads)

In one of the class, prof showed us an example on how cadbury used the theme "pappu pass hogaya!!". In that example, prof has shown the screen-shots of sms on mobile. A student enters the roll number and presses the "get result" button. He gets the results along with the message "pappu pass hogaya and time for treat - kuch meeta ho jaye cadbury".(This May not be the exact message). Till now it is good but the twist is that I saw the student's name which is exactly one of my friend's. The name on the screen was "LOKESH". I couldnt control my laugh when I saw lokesh's name on screen. So is he Pappu??. What you say Lokesh??

Apart from jokes, one of the most innovative ads I have ever seen is the ad by Volkswagen.
The concept is "test drive on a print ad". I was thrilled looking at this ad. Though few may not like it. Since I love technology/innovation, so is this ad.

The concept was awesome. Here the cost incurred on providing the test drive is saved. That must be a huge amount.

An hour ago, I have seen goldspot ad and this ad showed how the trend was then.

In my last posts there were comments on who created the ad and ofcourse the commentator herself has posted the answer and thanks to her.

updates part 3

Here is an incident that happened, when we attended for a project review.

The project was about VIP industries. We just prepared roughly. We went and sat before mam. Mam was busy with some other work and the fellow research students started asking us the questions. What was the project about and what information did we collect. We initially started by showing a pen drive and told him that everything was there. He asked us to explain the things with out using the pen drive. We told him what we collected and he stopped us in middle and directly asked us the recommendations. We again started explaining him our recommendations.
All of sudden he started questioning us this way "I have visited their plant in Nasik and it was very small. Do you think the strategy you are recommending works out?".
We were shocked and our group mate who was explaining till then became silent. We dont know what to say. Then somehow we were rescued as the company produces 13k units per day (explained by us). This time he remained silent. It was like a war.
Back to mam. She somehow collected the data in between, that we couldnot collect till then, and started asking us the questions on that part. We were totally unprepared for such a question. Actually in our group only 3 of us were prepared and rest 2 dint. When mam/fellow researcher was asking the questions, the unprepared guy was answering few questions (ofcourse not exactly the relevant answers). I couldnt control laughing there. Sometimes we need to prepare for the shocks that come from our own team mates.

In another guest lecture, we had a guest faculty talking about "hacking". I just love this subject. Hacking is something that tells the expertise of someone in the technology field. Prof was explaining us on how hacking happens and how we should take care of all these. Actually the night before the guest lecture, I dint sleep. I was feeling damn sleepy till when the class started and all of sudden I started listening to class with full interest.
The class was about wifi hacking and it is the most used network by us in our campus. Actually, the prof has given few website references which can help us hacking. From that day, I was afraid to use WIFI in public places. One thing that I dont understand is - "Is it that easy to hack ?"

Here is a blog worth reading and I totally disagree :) (It is one of my friend's)

Enjoy

updates part 2

In my last post I have mentioned the word "over heard". Those two words have a very significance in our college. It was started by one of the guys as "Over heard in Mess", shortly OHIM. He initiated this word by stating few things that he heard in the mess with out mentioning their names. It was a big success in the campus and later it is being adopted by so many people in the campus.
For example - this is a post copied from one of my friend's profile in fb
OHIM: A: "The enthu level of the juniors in the coms' selection process seems to be low. They are not working as hard as we did last year"
B: "Oh is it the case!! ... heard that some of the seniors are misguiding them with wrong facts/figures ... that might be a reason"
A: "huhhhh .... who are these people?"
B: " you know who"

This is a very good strategy adopted by few people. But slowly this model is diluted as many people have adopted this OHIM funda and even posted funny sms on fb under OHIM name. People obviously lost the interest and these days I rarely see OHIM messages on fb. Though there could be other reasons.

Coming back to classes, the count of guest lecturers was increasing week by week and hopefully we might not have these many in the coming weeks. In one of the guest lecture, the guest faculty was teaching some concept in excel sheet and that was related to some macros ( a bit advanced for normal excel users). He assumed that we had enough knowledge on excel. When one of the students asked on how to edit the data in a single cell using a shortcut key, the prof was shocked and told it was a very basic level question. Then he started telling us "After hearing such a doubt, I feel that it is too advanced for you guys." I dont know what impression we left there but I understand its not a good one. At sometimes, we may need to contend ourselves in asking few doubts (especially in technical subjects).

Classroom Updates 1

I always wanted to write about one of the profs who handles business sustainability class and I always forgot. :((

Most of the time we hear from profs " We should do this way so that we can gain xyz / We should follow those principles and be the role model". There is no surprise in that and we have been hearing all that "gyan" right from our childhood. But there is a difference between teaching the good practices and practically implementing them. The prof that I am talking about falls under the second category. He handles a subject which is very much related to "green" environment. In that subject, he always stresses on reduction of carbon emissions. When I heard that prof is actually contributing something good for the environment in our campus, I was shocked and surprised. Prof roams in the campus on bicycle :)). Yes, you saw a statement that may not be convincing and its true. Its just amazing right ??. More over, I have observed one more thing about the prof. Normally, most of the profs ask us to submit our write-ups on paper and he is the prof who insists paperless submissions :) (i.e mail him directly the write-up). Truly, he is saving so many papers and there by trees. Kudos to Prof. I love to see others follow the same.

One of the profs was explaining on how a company can fail if they dont take the right sample for market research. She has quoted that "bandra" and "ghatkopar" are two different segments. When mam was explaining about these places, I had a glimpse of my stay at Mumbai. Bandra is such a beautiful place ;)). A perfect place for bachelors.

Regarding quizzes and exams, I understood one thing. The role that "block diagrams" play is huge. I have been observing this trend, if there is any block diagram, in relation with the case, in the answer sheet, we will get atleast average marks. Also, I have seen that most of the toppers papers' have one thing in common - block diagrams.
One day when I was checking my answer sheets, I have over heard two people speaking -
person1 - "Whats this I got very less marks ? I have written really well"
Person2 - "You dint draw block diagrams. What ever is the question first draw a block diagram and then answer the question" (a little exaggeration by person2 yet it was mostly a correct stmt)
Person1 - "Is it? I will do that from next exam on wards".
By the way, person1 and person2 have good CG and definitely stand in the top 10 of our class.
